Urban Devotion

Urban Devotion

Urban Devotion offers Church and Community Work Internships, for 16-19 year olds, who are continuing in their education at Walsall Studio School, in order to progress them through serving and investing in their community.

Placements throughout the Black Country and possibly further afield, provide the working environment for the Urban Devotion Interns.

Urban Devotion builds on the existing strength, passion and good practice of churches/community organisations to work at grass roots level within communities, and provide a "joined-up" grass roots initiative across the Black Country.

Church and Community interns will choose one of these main vocational specialist areas:

  • Social Enterprise

  • Music

  • Technical and Digital Media

  • Performance and Presentation

As interns, young people will benefit your organisation by bringing their enthusiasm and energy to your organisation. They will also:

  • Invest in your organisation's vision and mission

  • Engage holistically with your team

  • Benefit from mentoring and support

  • Gain a breadth of experience within a unique opportunity to serve in their community

In turn, Walsall Studio School/Urban Devotion Staff invest into each young person, to personalise opportunities for education and training and accredit the work they do as part of the internship.

Young people will gain a nationally recognised qualification (L3 BTEC Diploma) in one of the related vocational areas that offers progression into employment and additional UCAS point for entry into university. The majority of the evidence (coursework) will be personalised projects completed in the church / community organisation where the young person is based as an intern.

If you would like more information about Urban Devotion then contact Dawn Jarman on 01922 621921 ext 208 or email

School For Social Entrepreneurs

School For Social Entrepreneurs

The Walsall Social Enterprise Zone is supporting the creation of a West Midlands School for Social Entrepreneurs.

SSE has been operating across the UK since 1997 with the aim of reducing inequalities and social exclusion by supporting social entrepreneurs to pilot and implement innovative solutions in the form of new businesses, charities, voluntary organisations and community interest companies. SSE supports individuals to realise their potential and to establish, scale and sustain, social enterprises and social businesses across the UK, Australia and Canada.

In 2013, SSE-West Midlands will be established in partnership with Solihull Council, Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership and a range of other local partners.  This is a really exciting development for social entrepreneurs and social change agents operating across the Midlands looking for practical, action-oriented support to help move their idea from being a concept into a reality.

Over time, SSE-West Midlands will deliver a diverse range of learning and support programmes to social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs that range from support for those in start-up phase through to social franchising and environmental entrepreneurs programmes.  During 2013, SSE-West Midlands will recruit and begin delivery of the Lloyds Banking Group Social Entrepreneurs Programme for start-up social entrepreneurs.  More information on this programme as well as application details can be found.

If you're interested in becoming a student, please contact Marta Zukowska on 020 7089 9120 or
